A new robust computational approach for the electric power system parameters

The state estimation (SE) is a fundamental data processing algorithm used by the control centers of modern power networks. The most widely used state estimator is rooted to the weighted least squares (WLS) estimator which is not sufficiently robust to the gross errors in the measurements. This paper...

The state estimation (SE) is a fundamental data processing algorithm used by the control centers of modern power networks. The most widely used state estimator is rooted to the weighted least squares (WLS) estimator which is not sufficiently robust to the gross errors in the measurements. This paper, presents a new robust algorithm for power system SE environments. The proposed approach not only has the comparative performance of the conventional loss function based on the estimator of the WLS additionally, it also considers loss function based on the quasi weighted least squares (QWLS) estimator. The performance analysis is evaluated on the ability of the state estimator for reducing the effects of bad measurements on the estimation results. The properties of the proposed state estimator are analyzed and the robustness of the estimator has been shown in terms of the influence function. The effectiveness of the proposed estimator has been illustrated by case studies of the IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 57-bus test networks. The results presented also reveal that the proposed algorithm remarkably improves the non-robustness property associated with the conventional algorithm. © 2017 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.
