Summary: The Pinang Formation of Pulau Pinang Marine Park of Redang Island is characterised by sediments which have been metamorphosed by the adjacent granitic intrusion. Contact metamorphism has transformed an interbedded sequence of sandstone and black shale into metasediments, quartzite and hornfels. There are strong evidence of deformation and folding in the formation. However there have been a lack of a specific and extensive study of this small area. Hence this study aims to determine the fracture type, orientation and density of the fracture of Pulau Pinang. A systematic data gathering and analysing method is employed in order to obtain and interpret the data collected. The scan line technique is employed to obtain the orientation of the fracture. The data gathered is analysed using Rose diagrams and stereonet projections and is modelled to produce a Discrete Fracture Network. It is found that the area has undergone intense open fractures with NE – SW orientations which are consistent with the regional stress acting on the area.
