Summary: Plastic is one of the recognizable objects which has caused significant damage to the water environment. This floating debris does not only contribute to the environmental problem but as well as becoming a contributing factor to flooding events. The risk of flooding could occur significantly due to the sedimentation of sloid waste on the riverbed causing the flow to be stagnant and in return resulted in the water depth to exceeds the permissible limit. Therefore, continuous maintenance is required to ensure that there is no floating debris presence within the urban drainage area to allow the conveyance of the stormwater runoff to flow efficiently following a storm events as well as preserving the water quality of the river. Accumulation of floating rubbish in Sungai Lumut Kiri have experienced severe flooding during the high tides period as well as after heavy rain had occurred.
