SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS OF SELECTED SHALES FROM SETAP FORMATION, SARAWAK, MALAYSIA

The exploration and exploitation of oil/gas resources to meet the drastic energy demands in the world has necessitated an enhanced understanding of the surface chemistry oforganic rich shale formations. An investigation was thus been conducted to evaluate variations in the surface characteristics...

An investigation was thus been conducted to evaluate variations in the surface characteristics of selected samples from shale gas potential Formations in the Sarawak basin, Malaysia. The impact ofsuch variations on the surface potential of the shales were also elucidated. Results of experimental data analyses indicated that specific surface areas have complex interrelationship with the type and content oforganic matter, mineralogy and affect surface characteristics inthe Setap Formation.
