Summary: Wave-in-deck is an event where waves hit the lower part of topside and creates extra forces to the platform by increasing its moment arm, which cause structural instability in terms of overturning. Accurate estimation of wave-in-deck forces is critical for both design and reassessment of existing jacket platforms. API-RP-2SIM (API, 2014) and ISO-19902 (ISO/CD, 2001) recommended simplified silhouette model approach, where wave-in-deck forces are calculated based on the overestimated topside area projected to wave-in-deck. The current engineering knowledge required to accurately predict the magnitude of wave-in-deck loads and its effect to global response of jacket platforms. Comprehensive methodology for estimating wave-in-deck forces using silhouette method and detailed component method for pushover analysis has been established and pushover analysis completed using USFOS for 8 (eight) platforms with actual data from the industry.
