Summary: “In this era of technology development, we often hear about a lot of issue regarding safety in the workplace. Workplace safety can be defined as a composite field related to safety, health and welfare of people at work. It also narrates the methods and strategy in place to ensure health and safety of employees within a workplace. Next, workplace safety includes employee awareness related to the knowledge of basic safety, workplace hazard, risks relating to hazards, implementations of hazard preventions, and putting into practice necessary safer methods, techniques, process and safety culture in the workplace. Safety training and education for employees is imparted periodically with a view to making them aware about and updating them with latest safety measures. In many industries, employees are required to deal with many risks involved in working high places. Most people automatically think of a skyscraper building when considering dangerous occupations where work is done above ground level, but death or serious injury can occur much closer to the ground. John Chesterfield once says, “Safety should be the no. 1 priority in any job, especially one in high places”. Working at height remains one of the biggest causes of fatalities and major injuries. Common cases include falls from ladders and through fragile surfaces. Falls from height can also be due to unguarded holes in floors such as hatchways, inspection holes and pits, and from falls into process tanks and machinery. Other significant hazards associated with working at height include falling objects and the potential for a working platform to collapse or overturn as well as contact with overhead electrical services. Apart from training in theoretical way, employees or workers need to understand and experience physical safety training at height too. One of the objectives for this project is to develop virtual reality (VR) application that involve workers in construction industries for safety training at height program. Not only that, the objective of this project is to explore the use of virtual reality (VR) and to evaluate user experience of construction workers on the virtual reality safety training at height. Furthermore, the author will use Unity 3D which is the game development software that will enable the author to develop a virtual reality for safety training at height that mainly focus on construction workers.”
