| Summary: |
Engineering process design is a methodical series of steps that engineers use in
creating functional products and process. The common stages included in the process
design are research, feasibility study, conceptualization, design requirement,
preliminary design, detailed design, production planning and tool design, and
production. After the completion of process design, safety assessment should be
done. If the safety assessment is being done after process design stage, there will be
lesser opening to change the conceptual design. Hence, this paper will explain the
safety assessment at preliminary design stage where, the freedom to change the
conceptual design is high. To assess the inherent safety level at preliminary design
stage, Process Stream Index (PSI) which is the new inherent safety index is used. |
